Volvo loader L90 and L120 liner kit
The engines of Volvo L90 and L120 loaders consist of a critical set of components that ensure optimal performance and stable power transmission. The cylinder block is made of gray cast iron with a compressive strength of 250–300 MPa and features internal cooling passages to withstand operating temperatures of 95–105°C. The crankshaft is alloy steel with heat-treated surfaces, a main journal diameter of 95–110 mm, and can handle torque up to 1,200 Nm. Pistons are forged aluminum with nickel coating, capable of withstanding cylinder pressures up to 160 bar. Connecting rods are Cr-Mo alloy steel with a core hardness of 35–40 HRC to resist fatigue from repeated impacts. Valves and camshafts have a surface hardness of 50 HRC, providing high wear resistance at engine speeds of 2,200–2,400 rpm.
The engine lubrication system includes a high-pressure oil pump delivering 180–200 liters per minute and 10–15 micron filters to maintain uniform flow and reduce friction. Water and oil radiators with a thermal capacity of 55–70 kW keep temperatures stable under heavy-duty conditions. The Cummins engine cylinder liner is cast from GCI-250 grade alloy cast iron. The internal surface hardness reaches 220 to 260 Brinell with a wall thickness of 6 to 8 millimeters. The internal bore diameter in the 6BT model equals 102 millimeters and in the NTA855 model equals 140 millimeters. Cross-hatch honing with an angle of 45 to 60 degrees is applied to the liner surface. Final surface roughness is reduced to below 0.3 micrometers Ra. The piston material is eutectic aluminum alloy with 18 percent silicon content. The cold piston-to-liner wall clearance measures between 0.12 and 0.18 millimeters. Two internal oil holes are machined inside the piston for skirt cooling purposes.
The top compression ring is manufactured from hardened steel with a hard chrome coating and a barrel face profile. The second compression ring is made from grey cast iron with a phosphate coating and a tapered sharp edge. The oil control ring features an expander spring and two rail faces with a barrel profile. The end gap (butt gap) for the top ring in a new liner is set between 0.35 and 0.45 millimeters. LINER KIT
The piston pin bush is made from tin-phosphor bronze alloy comprising 80-90% copper, 8-12% tin, and 0.3-0.5% phosphorus. This alloy has a hardness between 80 and 100 Brinell. The internal diameter is manufactured to H7 dimensional tolerance with a surface finish of Ra 0.2 microns. Wall thickness varies from 1.5 to 3 mm depending on engine size. These bushes undergo precision machining followed by stress-relief heat treatment. Finally, their inner surface is machined with a cross or helical groove pattern 20-40 microns deep. These grooves increase oil retention capacity by up to 70%.
The bush features a monolithic one-piece design and structure. It is press-fitted into the piston boss with a minimum pressure of 15 MPa. The radial clearance between the bush and the piston pin ranges from 0.015 to 0.040 mm. Some advanced designs employ additional coatings like graphite on the inner surface. This coating reduces the friction coefficient to approximately 0.02. The designed service life under dynamic loading exceeds 5000 hours of continuous operation. This component can withstand surface pressures of up to 40 MPa.
