The hook undergoes a quench and temper heat treatment process. This process achieves a final hardness between 32 to 38 Rockwell C HRC. All hooks are subject to certified load testing. The proof load test is typically 150% of the working load limit. The ultimate failure test is performed at 300% to 350% of the nominal capacity. The design incorporates a minimum operational safety factor of 4 to 1. This factor is calculated based on the steels minimum yield strength.

The hook shape follows a circular geometry with a gradual curve in the stress-bearing area. The hook surface is coated via hot-dip galvanizing or zinc spraying. The coating thickness is between 60 to 80 microns for corrosion protection. Depending on the type, hooks may feature a safety latch. This latch prevents accidental disengagement of the rope or attachment. Standard capacities are available from 0.5 tons to 50 tons. The shank or mounting section diameter is precision-machined. Magnetic particle or ultrasonic inspection for internal defects is mandatory.
