Fax machine
A modern fax machine is an office multifunction device with fax, print, scan, and copy capabilities. It supports Group 3 G3 fax standard with a maximum transmission speed of 33.6 kbps. The transmission time for one A4 page at standard resolution is typically 10 to 15 seconds. Fax scanning and printing resolution is often 200x200 or 200x400 dots per inch DPI. Advanced models feature internal memory up to 500 pages and support MH, MR, and MMR compression codecs. Connectivity is via an RJ-11 port for analog phone lines and USB or Ethernet for networking. Power consumption in standby mode is usually under 5 watts.
The device structure includes a flatbed or document feeder scanner CIS or CCD and a laser or inkjet printing mechanism. Paper tray capacity typically ranges from 100 to 250 sheets. Business models often feature a 4 to 7-inch color touchscreen LCD display. Security features like encrypted transmission and detailed call logging CDR are standard. Support for Internet Fax over IP FoIP protocols like T.38 for VoIP integration is also present. The optimal operational temperature range is usually 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. These devices integrate with document management systems and cloud services.
