Timing belt

The timing belt is one of the key components in internal combustion engines, responsible for precisely synchronizing the movement of the camshaft and crankshaft. It is typically made from a combination of materials such as reinforced rubber with fiberglass or Kevlar fibers, offering high flexibility and strong mechanical resistance to wear, heat, and tension. The teeth on the inner surface of the belt are designed to mesh with gears in a way that ensures slip-free power transmission and accurate timing of the opening and closing of the valves in coordination with the piston movement.

The lifespan of a timing belt varies depending on the engine type, driving conditions, and the quality of the belt, typically ranging from 60,000 to 120,000 kilometers. A damaged or broken timing belt can lead to the collision of valves and pistons, causing severe engine damage. Therefore, regular inspection and timely replacement are crucial. Timing belts are commonly used in lighter and quieter engines and are known for producing less noise and weighing less than timing chains, although they require more frequent maintenance and replacement. Using a timing belt that meets the technical specifications of the vehicle ensures optimal engine performance and improved fuel efficiency.
