Stock end mills refer to tools that are either lightly used or surplus inventory available in the market. Their diameters typically range from 2 to 20 millimeters, with overall lengths between 50 and 120 millimeters. The hardness of stock carbide tools is around 90 HRA, enabling machining of alloy steels, cast iron, and aluminum. Cutting edges usually range from 2 to 6, and the helix angle is designed between 30 and 45 degrees. These specifications provide performance similar to new tools, while prices are on average 30 to 50 percent lower.

Stock end mills can include flat, ball, or radius tip types, and depending on coatings such as TiN or TiAlN, thermal resistance can reach up to 900 degrees Celsius. Runout accuracy of stock tools is maintained below 0.01 millimeters, making them suitable for machining molds and precision components. The average lifespan of a stock tool is approximately 60 to 80 percent of a new tool depending on prior usage.
