The M22 hand tap is a tool used for creating internal threads with a nominal diameter of 22 millimeters and a standard pitch of 2.5 millimeters. It is typically made from alloy steel with a hardness of Rockwell 62 to 65 to ensure wear resistance. The total length of the tap is approximately 100 to 110 millimeters, with a shank diameter of about 16 millimeters. The standard design includes three pieces: taper tap, intermediate tap, and bottoming tap. The cutting angle ranges from 5 to 15 degrees, depending on the material being machined.

The M22 hand tap complies with ISO metric standards such as DIN 352 or DIN 2181 and is typically manufactured with a 6H tolerance class. It is suitable for machining low-carbon steel, aluminum, and brass. The tap usually features four flutes, which help in efficient chip removal and reduce jamming during operation. To extend service life, the use of medium-viscosity tapping oil is recommended. In manual operations, a rotation speed of 10 to 20 revolutions per minute is generally applied.
