The tensile strength of the base material—i.e., the ultimate breaking strength—determines the rating and grade given to the particular chain. The greater the breaking strength, the higher the grade, and vice versa. The grade indicated for a chain helps industry professionals identify the types of applications for which it is appropriate. For example, the strength of galvanized chains relies on the amount of carbon present in the metal as grade 30 chain has less carbon, it is weaker than grade 40 chain and suitable for service duty applications rather than heavy-duty applications.

Dry G80 chain, which has a high percentage of 97% iron in its alloy composition, is one of the most widely used grades of steel chain. This grade is produced from steel chain with medium carbon percentage, but its mechanical characteristics have been improved by performing a precise heat treatment. In this grade of cargo chains, tensile strength are very high and conversely, their malleability is low.
This chains has a higher price than other grades due to the difficult production process.
The choice between chains with different grades is made according to the user you want.
In contrast to this chain, there is G43 chain, which has the lowest grade among cargo chains with very low tensile strength, and is often used in general applications.

G80 carbon steel chain

The dry G80 chain is one of the popular steel grades that is produced with a medium carbon percentage, but with the use of a precise heat treatment, its mechanical characteristics have been increased. In the heat treatment process, the internal steel crystals of the G80 chain are homogenized, which have a higher continuity and, as a result, have a higher wear and tensile resistance in lifting loads. Production sizes are produced from G80 steel chains, which are large in size from 6 mm to 24 mm in lifting connections and in the production of chain slings as well as lifting using cranes.
G80 grade chain has a hardness of 350 in the Brinell HB unit and a tensile strength of about 80,000 pounds per inch or 550 MPa.

G80 carbon steel chain is actually an alloy of steel chain. The dry chain uses at least 98% iron element with an average percentage of carbon in its alloy composition. G80 dry chain has a tensile strength of 550 newtons per square millimeter N/mm2, which means that it can suspend 55 kg of load per square millimeter of the cross-sectional area at the complete tear stage.

G80 chain 24 mm

G43 chain

Steel chains are actually produced using low carbon iron alloys. The iron chain is offered in the market both in black without plating and in silver color with cold galvanized plating. Steel chain is malleable and has low tensile strength compared to dry and steel chains. Therefore, iron chains are used for industrial applications except for lifting loads with cranes. Steel chains in different sizes are often used from 6 mm and above for mall hangers and are used in different grades from G30 to G43. The tensile strength of G43 grade iron chains is 400 newtons per square millimeter. G43 iron chains are loaded and marketed inside iron barrels of different sizes.

8mm carbon steel chain

In most cases, the G80 steel alloy has the highest usage rate in the joints of overhead cranes, which is used in the size of 8 mm and above. 10 mm steel crane chains are often used on overhead cranes with a capacity of more than 2 tons. This dark black chain is used as surface phosphated to have better environmental resistance against rust.
